Echuca Flood Emergency

Quest EchucaThings are quickly returning to normal in Echuca Victoria after last weeks Campaspe River flood emergency.

GALTA Member, Quest Echuca along with the town centre and historic Port of Echuca precinct avoided the flood waters; however the nearby township of Rochester and homes in the western side of Echuca were evacuated, with homes and businesses inundated by water, Rochester 20 minutes up the road has been devastated.

Quest Echuca like most tourism businesses in the flood affected areas had concerned guests check-out early and bookings cancelled in the weeks ahead.

However a pro-active approach to the situation by Vincent Cooper the owner of Quest Echuca minimised the financial effects to his business by contacting the Red Cross and SES offering at reduced rates, accommodation options for their crews during the Campaspe River, Rochester/Echuca flood emergency.

Vincent said; with Echuca being a base for emergency services over the flood emergency; we offered “Hot Beds” for SES crews, CFA and Red Cross staff.

Hot Beds are rooms/apartments were crews use beds to catch some sleep in rotating shifts. We had our Housekeeping teams changing the linen every 4 to 8 hours depending on the situation.
I’m very proud of our staff here at Quest Echuca, everyone has put in a great effort, remembering that they all have homes and family in the flood affected area and yet not one staff member was unavailable to work!

The flood emergency has passed here now with the water slowly receding in the Campaspe River, our thoughts go out to all those in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria affected by this unprecedented flood event and would ask that everyone support the various flood relief appeals, every dollar helps.
