Gay and Lesbian Tourism Australia (GALTA) have announced that this year’s Annual General Meeting of members will be held in Cairns on Saturday 27 August.
GALTA Managing Director Rod Stringer said this week, “the Association is pleased to be convening in Cairns this year as a show of support for the tourism industry in Far North Queensland that has been particularly affected by economic conditions and by adverse weather events.”
“GALTA Directors and Members will be attending the popular Cairns Tropical Pride Festival as well as visiting member properties in Cairns and Port Douglas.”
Mr Stringer stated that membership has expanded considerably during the past year and is now in excess of 150 Members throughout the country.
“We represent many aspects of the tourism and hospitality industries that have an interest in attracting gay & lesbian customers.”
Mr Stringer said that that one the main benefits of joining GALTA is the proficiency of its distribution channels particularly through its popular website and extensive exposure at national gay & lesbian events.
“In the last twelve months GALTA has attended some ten national and International pride events and fair days distributing over 2500 of its ‘pink’ show bags containing members brochures at these events.”
“GALTA has commissioned a brand new web site that is now ranked in the top three on Google for gay tourism within Australia.”
In other news, GALTA is pleased to announce the appointment of Zane Williams as its new South Australian Representative. Zane has been active in the South Australian Community volunteering with the AIDS Council of South Australia and Australia’s largest queer cultural festival, Feast. Zane is currently studying marketing and media arts at the University of South Australia, and will be a great asset in developing GALTA’s membership base in South Australia.
