GALTA attends Brisbane Pride Festival

GALTA attends Brisbane Pride FestivalGALTA popped the first cork of Talking Travel at Spring Hill’s Imagination bar with a combined member function with Brisbane Gay & Lesbian Business Network.

This is the third year that GALTA & GLBN have presented Talking Travel as part of the Brisbane Pride Festival. Guests from Brisbane and interstate mingled as presenters from the Wellington Outgames announced that games registrations, which launched that night, were now open and invited attendees to register to participate.

Guests were also treated to a promotional DVD with one spokesperson from across the ditch giving a bit of cheek. Around 1000 participants are expected to attend a week full of sports competition, a human rights conference, a large GLBTI arts and cultural festival, and spectacular parties with international DJs. Participants are expected from over 15 countries in the region, from Sri Lanka to Samoa and a large contingent from Australia. The Wellington Outgames will be held 12 – 19 March 2011. A lawn bowls team was formed on the evening and will be participating in New Zealand, while the fresh baked pies ,BBQ Tiger prawns from Moreton Day was the order of the day topping the finger food list for our Kiwi friends. A big thankyou to John, Robbie & Chefs at the Spring Hill Hotel for making the venue available for this event.

Next day it was all hands on deck for Brisbane Pride Fair Day with our new pink GALTA show bags a big hit with crowd. Rod from Peregian (Noosa), Rohan from Canberra, Brett from Melbourne, Geoffrey from Travel Out, Phil from Alice Springs, Tony from Sydney, and Wally from Brisbane kept a supply of Show bags full with members collateral and promoting the GALTA website.

A constant stream of visitors filled out the entry forms for our competition, as the GALTA Team answered many questions regarding gay & lesbian travel enquiries. While a fine crisp Brisbane winter day saw numbers down a bit on last year, those attending seemed to enjoy the many attractions on offer throughout the Park.

Sunday saw the GALTA Board convene in the Sky Lounge atop the recently refurbished and gay friendly Urban Hotel in Spring Hill for its quarterly Board Meeting. Featuring a 270 degree view of Brisbane, the meeting was joined by new Sydney GALTA Director Tony Filippi and new Victorian Representative Geoffrey Pfitzner, to discuss upcoming activities of GALTA over the next 12 months.
