GALTA was represented by Rod Stringer from Horizons at Peregian at an International travel symposium in Brazil last month.
It was organised by the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) and their South American membership.
Some 200 delegates and invitees attended the three day event which showcased the beautiful resort island of Florianopolis, capital of the province of Santa Catarina.
The island is a short distance off the mainland and is regarded as one of the premier tourist destinations in all of Brazil. It attracts many thousands of gay visitors particularly around Carnival time when there are huge parties and events organised to cater for a more ‘gay’ clientele than the famous parties in Rio.
Florianópolis is also famous for its surfing beaches and seafood and the hospitality of the locals is second to none.
Tourism Australia worked with GALTA and contributed brochures and other material for our booth. It was the first time Australia has had representation at a gay travel event in South America.
