Northern TerritoryThe Northern Territory is a sensational place for the gay or lesbian traveller to visit. So sensational in fact, that many of us choose to live here! From Uluru and The Alice through to Darwin driving along the Stuart Highway or riding on The Ghan; east and west into wetlands and deserts, this place is filled with 'all the colours of the rainbow'.
The Territory's essence lies in the pride and passion of her people along with the energy and spirit of the land. There are so many adventures to be experienced in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Aboriginal people are a joy to encounter in their traditional worlds and in urban settings. Rich culture abounds in their many language groups. Both Alice Springs and Darwin boast strong and vibrant gay and lesbian communities that will welcome you and show you just some of the reasons why this place attracts us.
Tourism NT has been actively supporting the gay and lesbian travel sector for many years with a dedicated budget to provide marketing resources and promotional activities. Tourism Central Australia and Tourism Top End are equally supportive of the gay and lesbian traveller market and are keen to support us. Operators in the NT who choose to join Gay & Lesbian Tourism Australia do so in the knowledge that the community is diverse in it's tastes for fun and adventure.
So...do yourself a favour. Come and spend some time being with us in this vibrant Northern Territory. In Alice Springs, join us for weekly drinks on a Friday, a BBQ at the Old Telegraph Station on a Sunday, a rainbow dance party every couple of months or simply relax and soak up the warmth of the people and their stories. In the Top End, please wander down to Absolutely Books in Cullen Bay and catch up on the latest events happening in and around Darwin.
Remember to allow plenty of time to explore so much of what our Territory offers. It's so much more than the major centres...it's where you learn to become a human being not just a human doing!!!
Our purpose is to promote and develop tourism to and within the NT. A firm base of operations in each of our priority markets has placed the NT in an excellent position to market effectively our unique destination, natural attractions and tourism product. The NT can only be classified as the “real” Australia. Natural attractions like Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge), Kakadu N.P., Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) the friendly Territorians make a visit to the Territory an unforgettable experience. All this natural beauty with a full range of accommodation, touring and adventure as soft or as hard as personal preference dictates.
