Bushwalking, wildlife, food and wine, history and personal service. Tasmania is a dream come true for gay and lesbian travellers who enjoy nature and a quieter pace of life. There's a network of gay-owned and gay-friendly guesthouses, hotels, and bed and breakfasts throughout Tasmania, with small, friendly gay and lesbian communities in Hobart and Launceston.
Drive to Freycinet National Park, then walk to the magnificent Wineglass Bay. Contrast this with the alpine environment around Cradle Mountain which couldn't be more different. The architectural remains of Australia’s Colonial past are evident throughout the island. Don't miss a visit to penitentiaries like Port Arthur and Richmond, which stand as brutal reminders of the convict era.
If it's food and wine you're interested in, the vineyards of the Tamar Valley are producing some very tasty Pinot Noirs and Rieslings, and the cellar doors are well worth the trip. The seafood, cheeses and other organic foods produced by this island state are amazingly tasty. Hobart has some great cafes and restaurants – but make sure your visit includes a Saturday for the famous Salamanca Market - a feast for all senses.
Most visitors hire a car here. They are plentiful and inexpensive, and the driving is short and slow paced. Or book a boutique guided tour, sit back and relax. There are air links from most cities, and a regular ferry service from Melbourne to Devonport.
Here at the Hobart Travel Centre, we recognise that each visitor has different interests and requirements. We take pride in helping travellers to make the right choices, so that each Tasmanian holiday is personalised and tailored to their needs.
We don’t offer set itineraries and we don’t do package deals. What we do is respond to each customer as an individual, discussing their needs and helping them design the perfect Tasmanian holiday.
