Despite the wet weather, thousands of people turned out for the 2009 Mardi Gras Fair Day held at Victoria Park in Camperdown.
Marking the official launch of the Festival, official proceedings included special guests Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Neighbour Day founder Andrew Heslop and broadcaster Julie McCrossin.
While numbers were down on previous years, Victoria Park was turned into a queer wonderland featuring a variety of stalls, entertainment stages and partygoers with GALTA amongst it all.
After accepting an offer to share the Flight Centre Rainbow marquee, Wally Cowin, Brett Hayhoe and myself represented GALTA, handing out TSD’s and answering many questions from visitors on the day. A special thank you to Aaron and his team from Flight Centre Rainbow for their hospitality throughout the day.
A number of GALTA Members were also in attendance including Horizons at Peregian, Balin Garu, Revelwood Retreat and Out and About Travel.
Spotted in the damp but enthusiastic crowd was Matthew Mitcham, Ian Roberts and Virginia Gay, as visitors were treated to a dazzling line-up of performances including Shauna Jensen, Bob Downe, Brecik and Lesbian Supergroup.
