Australia’s Happiest Town
The Whitsundays has won the prestigious title of Australia’s Happiest Town in the Channel 7 Sunrise program’s ‘Vaalia Happiest Town’ promotion. The Whitsundays is home to the Smile Whitsundays initiative which now has over 200 business signatories who have committed to a Smile Whitsundays Customer Service Charter and have pledged to share their happiness with everyone they greet.
Whale of a Time
Over the past few months the whale sightings have sky rocketed with marvellous photos and videos of frolicking whales being shared online by many visitors to the Whitsundays. Whales visit the Whitsundays every year on their annual migration north during the winter months. They choose the Whitsundays to give birth to their calves, choosing the warm, calm, protected waters of the Whitsunday islands as an ideal nursery. Humpback and pilot whales are the most common species sighted, and Migaloo the white humpback whale has also been seen in the Whitsundays for the last few years.
New Beach Opens
The Whitsundays is boasting a beautiful new beach named Boathaven Beach. A feature of the new Port of Airlie marina, Boathaven Beach has soft white sands and turquoise waters, complimented by spectacular views of the surrounding Whitsundays Islands and beyond. The great location of Boathaven Beach offers a quick stroll to the heart of Airlie Beach where you can wine and dine as you watch a magical sunset over the sun kissed Whitsundays and 74 Island Wonders.
Queenslands Season of sailing
The Whitsundays’ annual Airlie Beach Race Week and the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week have spectators and yachties from around the globe sailing to the warm Whitsunday waters in August.
